In the simplest case in which verbal behavior is under the control of verbal stimuli, the response generates a sound pattern similar to that of the stimulus. For example, upon hearing the sound Beaver, the speaker says Beaver. Evidence of a tendency to engage in such “echoic” behavior comes from many sources. (p. 55)
