“Operant conditioners are said to be insular. They read each other’s papers and books, but few of those written by other psychologists. That favor is reciprocated. The trouble may have its roots in history. In the early days of the experimental analysis of behavior, the editors of the standard journals would not publish reports of research on single organisms or with behavior recorded in cumulative curves. It was necessary to start a new journal, which has never been widely read outside the field. Similar difficulties in finding space for meetings led to the founding of Division 25 of the American Psychological Association. Its meetings are attended almost exclusively by behavior analysts. The insularity has been costly.” (pp.133-134)
